A Day of Connection, Knowledge and Female Empowerment
In 2016, the Estação Mulher project was conceived with a clear purpose: to celebrate women’s strength in all its dimensions and create a space for connection among women, families and the wider community. More than an event, the initiative was designed as a transformative experience, bringing information, support and practical tools for greater autonomy to women in the Ibiti region of Sorocaba.
Based on the belief that every woman carries a unique strength — whether as a mother, professional, daughter, friend or partner — the event offered a diverse, accessible programme deeply connected to the participants’ everyday lives. Throughout the day, a range of activities encouraged self-awareness, independence and collective empowerment.
Practical Knowledge and Everyday Independence
One of the event’s highlights was a basic home repairs workshop for women, offering a practical and accessible introduction to using tools and carrying out everyday household maintenance. Participants learned, for example, how to replace a shower heating element, operate a power drill and identify different types of tools — simple yet valuable skills that can make a meaningful difference in everyday independence.
Education, Health and Well-being
The programme also featured talks focused on personal and family development. Education specialist Carolina Body led a practical discussion on understanding children’s behaviour in the school environment, offering tools to strengthen the relationship between parents and children and support the learning process.
In the area of well-being, acupuncturist and massage therapist Alessandra Nagassawa presented the various benefits of aloe vera, highlighting its medicinal properties and everyday applications. Pharmacist Magali Glauzer Silva offered an innovative perspective on gut health, explaining how the microbiome can directly influence aspects such as energy, beauty and emotional balance.
Self-Awareness and Female Empowerment
One of the event’s most memorable moments was a talk by psychoanalyst Dr Maria Clara Barbosa, who introduced storytelling therapy (contoterapia) as a tool for reconnecting with the female psyche. Inspired by the book Women Who Run with the Wolves, the session invited participants on a deeper journey of self-discovery and reconnection with their inner strength, creating a safe space for listening, reflection and transformation.
Leadership and Representation
The programme also created space for essential conversations about identity and representation. Social entrepreneur Denise Teófilo delivered a powerful talk on the leadership and empowerment of Black women, addressing historical, social and cultural issues while highlighting African ancestry as a source of resistance, identity and transformation.
The discussion was complemented by a turban-making workshop, exploring the turban as a symbol of identity, dignity and cultural heritage. The activity provided participants with a meaningful, hands-on experience of reconnecting with their roots.
Culture, Art and Expression
Estação Mulher also recognised art as a powerful tool for expression and connection. The programme featured cultural performances that enriched the audience’s experience, including traditional southern Brazilian dance presented by a group led by Bruno Evangelista.
The musical programme featured Monoclube, bringing folk-rock influences to the event, as well as Urban Trio, performing instrumental reinterpretations of classics from around the world.
Another highlight was a self-defence session led by instructor Carlos, who demonstrated practical techniques designed to help women protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations, reinforcing the importance of personal safety, confidence and preparedness.
A Space for Collective Transformation
By bringing together knowledge, culture and practical tools for empowerment in a single day, Estação Mulher established itself as a socially impactful initiative, offering not only information but also opportunities for meaningful transformation.
The event strengthened community connections, encouraged female autonomy and created space for each participant to recognise and expand her own potential.
More than a diverse programme of activities, Estação Mulher left a lasting legacy of celebrating women in all their diversity — reaffirming that true empowerment begins with recognising one’s own strength.
